Swaraj Abhiyan claims one liquor vend ‘closed’ in Old Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) Swaraj Abhiyan has claimed that aliquor vend was "closed" today following a campaign in OldDelhi’s Matia Mahal Assembly constituency. The forum, led by expelled AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav andPrashant Bhushan, has been holding ‘Jan Sunwayi’ (publichearings) on "proliferation" of liquor vends across the city. "We have organised a ‘Jan Sunwayi’ near Ajmeri Gate inMatia Mahal constituency today. During the ‘Jan Sunwayi’, itcame to notice that people of the area were facing problemsdue to a liquor vend," the forum said in a press statement. It claimed that the AAP government has not taken anyaction in this issue and demanded roll back of all 399 newliquor vends as well as cancellation of older licenceswherever local population is opposed to it. "Swaraj Abhiyan starts second phase of ‘Sharab Nahi,Swaraj Chahiye’ campaign today – ‘Halla Bol’, will choose anew site every day to close the liquor vends," it said. Residents will now take the responsibility of closingdown liquor vends in their respective areas "after theincompetence of the government has come to light", it said. During the campaign, Bhushan claimed that the "governmenthad now clearly had got into money making business" and sincethe public has decided to act on the issue, they can not bestopped and the government will have to take action. Earlier, Yadav in his speech reiterated his accusationagainst Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of giving sanction toopen 399 liquor outlets in the national capital over the lastone year.
