Two brothers go missing as car falls into canal

Dehradun, Sep 13 (PTI) Two brothers are missing as thecar they were travelling in was swept away in a swollen canalin Chorgaliya area of Nainital district following heavyovernight rains. The mishap occurred at around 11 PM last night. Ten persons were travelling by the car when it fell intothe canal and was swept away by its swirling waters, DistrictDisaster Management Office here said today. Eight persons out of the ten were rescued alive but twoare missing, it said. Disaster Management teams and police personnel are stillscouring the canal in search of the two brothers. The vehicle was going from Banfulpura in Haldwani toNanakmatta in Udhamsingh Nagar district at the time of theaccident. The two brothers have been identified as 20-year-oldNishan and 17-year-old Rehan who hailed from Haldwani. Several places in Nainital district have been lashed byheavy rains since last evening with Chorgaliya receiving 153MM of showers followed by Haldwani (130 MM), Nainital (83.82MM) and Dhari (66.20 MM). Meanwhile, the MeT department has issued an alert ofheavy rains in six districts of Uttarakhand over the next 24hours including Nainital, Dehradun, Chamoli, Pithoragarh,Bageshwar and Udhamsingh Nagar.
