5 killed in landslide

Aizawl, Sep 17 (PTI) Five persons from two families,including a minor girl, were killed in a massive landslidetriggered by extremely heavy rainfall today at Tlungvelvillage in Mizoram’s Aizawl district. The heavy rainfall between 1 AM and 2 AM swept away threehouses of the village and a couple and their four-year-olddaughter were killed in the landslide. Their 11-year-old son,however, survived with minor injuries. The bodies of the girl and her mother were recovered, butthe man’s body was found two km away where he was swept awayby a flash flood. An elderly woman and her 25-year-old son living in thesame village were also killed in the landslide, police said,adding another house, which had been abandoned, was alsodestroyed in the calamity. A number of landslides were also reported from acrossMizoram which caused road blockades. Telecommunication lines were snapped and power supply wasalso disrupted in some places, the reports said.
