Delhi govt lays foundation stone of STP at Coronation Pillar

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) Deputy Chief Minister ManishSisodia today laid the foundation stone of 318 MLD-SewageTreatment Plant (STP), touted as Asia’s "biggest and cheapest"plant, near Mukundpur area here. "The plant will be based on ‘activated sludge process’technology and will be fully automated with the facility ofonline monitoring of all the treated effluent parameters. "Being the biggest plant ever built in India based onthis technology, it will be sustainable in respect of powerconsumption," a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) official said. Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra said the STP plant atCoronation Pillar is Asia’s biggest and cheapest STP and willhelp in cleaning the Yamuna. DJB CEO Keshav Chandra said power will be produced fromthe bio-gas generated from the waste to meet about 60 per centrequirement of electricity at the plant. The total cost of this project is Rs 515 core and it isexpected to be completed in 30 months, he said. The STP at Coronation Pillar is an integral part ofSewage Master Plan-2031 of the Delhi government. "The STP will also treat wastewater originating fromunauthorised colonies and unsewered areas reaching Yamuna,hence boosting efforts of cleaning the Yamuna river," the DJBofficial said. The STP is designed on advanced and modern parameters totreat water upto BOD/TSS level of 10/10, he said. The colonies which will benefit from the plan includeShakti Nagar, Kamla Nagar, Roop Nagar, DU Campus, Nehru Nagar,Swaroop Nagar, Bhalaswa, Sant Nagar and Wazirabad Group ofColonies.
