Foreign Secy S Jaishankar summons Pak High Commissioner

Date:

Amid the Uri attack in which 18 soldiers of Indian Army were killed, Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar summoned the Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit on Tuesday to present him him the proof of Pakistan involvement in the attacks.

Vikas Swaroop MEA Spokesperson  said during a meeting that the identity of a slain Uri attacker is also revealed. Investigations identified that the attacker’s name is Hafiz Ahmed and he is a native of Muzaffarabad which comes in POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir).

The foreign secretary also informed Basit that the two guides who helped the four terrorists to come across the border are the local villagers and are now in custody. The guides have been identified as Faizal Hussain, 20, and Yasin Khurshid, 19, both natives of Muzaffarabad. He further added that continuing terror attacks from that side of the border will be unacceptable.

Following the Uri attack, the Defence Minister in a late night tweet had stated that blaming Pakistan for Uri and any attempt to escalate tension to deflect attention from state terrorism in Kashmir, will “prove expensive for Indians”. Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had stated that Indian’s assertion that Islamabad was behind the Uri attack, was New Delhi’s “long-time habit”.

Three days after the Uri Attack India summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and presented evidence of Pakistan’s role in the Uri terror attack as well as other strikes like Pathankot.

Vikas Swarup dispalyed a list of proofs nailing Pakistan’s involvement in the Uri Attacks:

1. GPS from the bodies of terrorists with coordinates that indicate the point and time of infiltration across the LoC and the subsequent route to the terror attack site.

2. Grenades with Pakistani markings.

3. Communication matrix sheets

4. Communication equipment

5. Other stores made in Pakistan, including food, medicines and clothes.

S Jaishankar said that Pakistan government should take active involvement in the investigation of the attacks. India is ready to provide the finger prints and DNA samples of the terrorists involved in the Uri and Poonch attacks.
