UN celebrates Diwali stamp, honours fhe couple who rallied for the stamp

Anju and Ravi Batra, Indian American community leader’s efforts to introduce Diwali stamp in U.S. finally came to existence a month after the festival of Diwali on December 5.

“Small stamp for a big festival” was the name given to the event which was organized by permanent mission of the republic of Belarus and presented by Belarus’ ambassador to the UN Andrei Dapkiunas.

The event was attended by 23 supporting countries for the notion of commemorating the stamp.

Indian ambassador to the UN Syed Akbaruddin congratulated the couple for their continuous efforts for the establishment of the much awaited stamp. He said “ this is not a story but saga of persistent efforts to make this happen. I like to applaud Mrs. Ranju Batra for her efforts and I look forward to you to share her experience and struggle to the world”. He also added that “ this is an unique turn of events when there is man behind the success of a women”.

Acting U.N. president in the event Mwabe Kasese-Bota also congratulated and applauded the couple with a greeting and warm speech.
