Say Hi to Tata’s first sports car

Date:

Tata Motors’ unveiled their first ever sports car concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor show. It’ll be produced under Tata Motor’s new portmanteau banner – TAMO and it claims to pack 187 bhp. For reasons unknown it’s called the Racemo – a front-engined, two-seater sports car – with a good deal of crossover design cues thrown in for typical Tata practicality. The car will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron, manufactured by Tata with a 6-speed AMT transmission with paddle shifters.

The Racemo can apparently hit 0-100 kph in 6 seconds officially making it the fastest car Tata has ever made, apart from any Tata Sumo inter-city taxi from the 90’s – which was long-believed to have held the existing land speed record.

The car has been designed in Tata motors’ design studio in Turin and as a result it’s quite a looker. It’s got a highly futuristic skin, with multiple layers of what Tata calls its MOFlex multi0material structure. Admittedly that sounds like a disused MSN web avatar, but it adds a certain levity to the car which is indispensable to sports cars. Say what you will about the Racemo – sportscars are always a welcome direction for car makers to move in and could truly mark the coming of age of Tata as a global player.
