Delhi’s Taj Mansingh hotel up for sale

New Delhi: National Capital’s iconic Taj Mahal Hotel, also known as Taj Mansingh, run by Tata group, will be auctioned, says Supreme court.

The highest of the country today allowed the civic agency, New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC) to e- auction the five star hotel.

However, the SC bench, comprising of two senior judges asked NDMC to grant six months “breathing time” to the TATAs to vacate the hotel, if its bid in the online auction is not the winning offer.

Taj Mansingh, presently being run by Tata Group firm Indian Hotel Company Ltd (IHCL).

The Tatas had been given a 33-year lease for the property. The contract ended in 2011. The conglomerate’s hotel division was given nine extensions after that. Last month, the Delhi govt decided that the hotel would be auctioned.

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), approached the apex court against the Delhi High Court order, which had paved the way for auctioning of the historic property.

The firm had challenged the verdict delivered by a division bench of the Delhi High Court, which had dismissed IHCL’s petition challenging the move by the NDMC to auction the property.
