Lebanon bans Wonder Woman screening over Israeli lead Gal Gadot

Date:

Lebanon has banned the release of Wonder Woman in the country because the role of the title character is played by an Israeli actress.

As a citizen of Israel, Gal Gadot has served in the Israel Defense Force (IDF). Service in the Israeli military is compulsory for its citizens.

The superhero blockbuster was banned by the Lebanese interior ministry hours before its release. Lebanon has been at war with Israel and the country’s Ministry of Economy and Trade has maintained a policy of banning all trade in Israeli products and prohibits Lebanese citizens from interacting with Israeli people.

This is the first movie starring Gal Gadot that has been banned by Lebanon. Her appearances in the Fast & the Furious franchise and Batman vs Superman films did not attract the ban.
