Winners plan to boycott the 65th National Film Awards – Know why

Date:

This year at the 65th National Film Awards, almost 140 nominees are expected to receive awards at the grand event being hosted in Delhi. Some of the winners, however, are planning to boycott the ceremony after they learnt that only the President Ram Nath Kovind plans to attend the event just for one hour.

Though the prize distribution ceremony will carry on for a longer time, a few awardees would be facilitated by him while some would not. He will only distribute 11 awards out of 140 and this has disappointed the other winners.

This has made the winners contemplate whether they should attend the ceremony at all or skip it as last year, Pranab Mukherjee, former President had facilitated all the winners personally at the National Film Awards.

The film industry and filmmakers find it disrespectful that the winners are treated in this way by the organisers and earlier they were told that the president will himself distribute the awards, however, only recently were they informed about the change in the schedule.
