US team in North Korea, the Trump-Kim summit on schedule

The preparation for talks between North Korea and the United States will start on Monday, according to President Trump’s tweet on Sunday. Last week the president United States had released a letter stating the talks have been called off. But less than 24 hours later her said that the talks may go on as scheduled. Sunday’s tweet is the second iteration that the talks are on schedule.

Trump had called North Korea’s response to his decision to cancel a summit with the nation’s leader Kim Jong-Un “warm and productive”. On Sunday he informed that the US team arrived in North Korea to make arrangements for much-talked-of summit with Kim Jong Un.

Earlier the Washington Post had reported that over the next two days, a slew of meetings will be conducted between the US and North Korea about Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons programme.

This comes in the backdrop of a surprise meeting on May 26 between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to discuss the possible forthcoming US-North Korea summit.

According to Moon, Kim was concerned if he could trust the US with the security of its regime in return for denuclearisation.
