Television broadcasting company ABC finally confirmed it will bring back ‘Roseanne’ albeit in a spin-off – tentatively called ‘The Conners’. However, the cast will not include Roseanne Barr. About three weeks back, the network had abruptly canceled the revival of “Roseanne” following racist tweet by Barr.
The spin-off, centers, on the family as they grapple with “parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America,” the network said in a news release. “Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns — with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”
It stressed in its announcement that Barr – who gave rise to a controversy after calling Valerie Jarrett, the former senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, the baby of the “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes” – will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series.
“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from ‘Roseanne’. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved,” Barr said in a statement.
