No Trust Vote: AIADMKs, Sena’s vitamin shot for Govt

A day before the No Confidence motion, which was accepted by the Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on the first day of the monsoon session of the parliament, is moved the government got a vitamin shot, with Shiv Sena saying it would vote in favour of the motion and AIADMK hinting it will not back the motion.

Shiv Sena, which has 18 MPs in the Lower House, said it would vote in favour of the saffron party after Amit Shah spoke to Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday morning. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami also hinted that his party AIADMK, the third largest party in the House with 37 MPs, might not back the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government.

The NDA government may as well sail through the test of strength with Shiv Sena, AIADMK on its side.

To defeat the no-confidence motion, the BJP would require to 268 votes. The NDA at present counts 312 members in the 535-member Lok Sabha, including 274 of the BJP.

  • NDA has 314 minus the Speaker (includes Shiv Sena – 18, Lok Jan Shakti Party-6 and Shiromani Akali Dal – 4)
