Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Final Journey, all you need to know

The nation is mourning the loss of one of its tallest statesman Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on Thursday at 5:05 pm. A great leader, prolific poet and a powerful orator, Vajpayee had been in AIIMS for more than 2 months. His mortal remains were then taken to his residence.

Things you need to know about his last journey:

  • Friday 7.30 am -.8.30 am: Homage can be paid at his residence
  • Friday 9 am: Mortal remains to be taken to BJP HQ for public homage
  • Friday 1:30 pm: Funeral procession starts for Rashtriya Smriti Sthal
  • Friday 4.00 pm : Cremation at Smriti Sthal
  • 1.5 acres land alloted for Vajpayee memorial.
  • Seven-day mourning throughout India. During the period the national flag will be flown at half mast.

 

  • A convoy with the mortal remains of Vajpayee left from AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for his residence, where he his mortal remains will rest till the morning.

  • Delhi and Gurgaon schools will remain shut on Friday
  • Jharkhand government has declared seven-day mourning in memory of Vajyapee Ji. The state govt has also declared a state holiday tomorrow.
  • All Punjab Offices/Boards/Corporation and Educational Institutions of the state will remain closed tomorrow as a mark of respect.

Vajpayee had been undergoing treatment in AIIMS for the past nine weeks. After he suffered a stroke in 2009, that weakened his cognitive abilities, he had developed dementia. He was diabetic and only had one functional kidney.
