Schools, colleges and govt offices to remain shut on Friday, 7-day state mourning declared

As a mark of respect to the departed leader AB Vajpayee, all schools, colleges and government offices will remain shut on Friday in Delhi-NCR and several states across the country.

UP, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Jharkhand and Odisha governments have also declared a holiday to honour the great leader, the former prime minister and Bharat Ratna.

The nation’s tallest statesman Atal Bihari Vajpayee lost the battle with life on Thursday at 5:05 pm. A great leader, prolific poet and a powerful orator, Vajpayee had been in AIIMS for more than 2 months.

The central government has announced a seven state mourning throughout the country. The national flag will fly at half mast during this period.

His funeral will take place at 5 pm on Friday at the Smrithi Sthal in new Delhi. Those who want to pay their last respects can pay homage to him at the BJP headquarters.

At 1 pm a procession, of approximately 50,000-1,00,000 will move to the Smrithi Sthal for the last rites.
