Sensex, Nifty record the worst month in over 2 years; Infibeam crashes 70%

Date:

BSE Sensex ended 97.03 points lower at 36,227.14, on Friday while the Nifty50 was 47.10 points down at 10,930.45. Both indices declined for the third straight day marking their worst month since February 2016, mainly dragged by heavy losses in metal, realty and auto stocks.

Yes Bank shares extended losses and closed over 9% lower today. Shares of Infibeam Avenues slumped over 70% over a Whatsapp message ahead of the company’s annual general meeting on Saturday and failed to recover despite the company’s clarification regarding disclosures.

The rupee strengthened against the US dollar, tracking gains in Asian currencies. At 2pm, the rupee was trading at 72.55 a dollar, up 0.07% from its previous close of 72.60.

Oil prices rose with energy analysts warning that a supply crunch could propel prices to $100 a barrel. Gold prices hit a six-week low and were set for longest monthly losing streak in 20 years.
