October woes! Cure children’s allergies & colds with these home remedies

Date:

The weather in Delhi has undergone a big change in the last few days. A slight nip in the air, pollution levels on the rise and weather changes have made children and adults susceptible to allergies, colds and viral infections.

What are the reasons for this sudden rise in health issues –
1. Drop in temperatures have increased the chances of kids catching infections. Especially in the evenings and early mornings, when kids are out for school or to play, they are most prone to catching these respiratory infections.
2. While interacting with other kids, the flu virus floats through the air and is contagious. It can be transmitted as an infection.
3. Seasonal shift and extreme weather swings.
Hence, what are certain Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind –
1. If one has already caught cough & cold then the best way is to keep clearing out the mucus.
2. Wear full sleeves. The thicker the clothing material, more is the heat that is provided to the body, making us feel comfortable.
3. Do not travel if you are already down with a viral. Travelling might make you feel weak and may transfer the flu from one to another. So, it is better to take a day off and rest.

Home remedies recommended for treating cold –
1. Tulsi (Indian Basil) has been mentioned in the ‘Vedas’ (ancient Indian scripts) as the best medicinal herb that has various health benefits. These include oral care, relief from respiratory disorders, as well as treatment of fever, asthma, lung infections, heart diseases and stress.

2. Ginger is the best remedy for the throat. It has powerful therapeutic properties and one can have ginger in the form of tea or raw ginger with honey.

3. Turmeric is a very strong antioxidant. Boiled milk with pinch of turmeric is best for treating respiratory infections.

4. Hot water or hot steam helps clear the nose and throat.

If the flu still persists, it is best advised to consult a doctor.

It’s always better to take good care when suffering from cold & other infections. Don’t try to avoid it. Fight it.
