As per the latest development, Alok Verma is still the CBI Director and Rakesh Asthana still serves as the Special Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, the agency confirmed on Thursday.
However, M Nageshwar Rao will look after duties & functions of the CBI Director in the interim period till the time chief vigilance commission (CVC) looks into the allegations, said CBI Spokesperson.

The Supreme Court bench, headed by CJI Gogoi is set to hear the plea filed by Verma on Friday. Verma and an NGO files a plea in SC against the against the government’s order sending him on leave and relieving him of charge as CBI Director.
The CBI drama took a new turn when the government sent Alok Verma on the leave on CVC’s recommendation and Rao took charge as CBI director at 1:45 am on Tuesday night.

Soon after this, many rumours regarding Verma’s relieve started doing round. According to some reports, Verma was about to begin the probe on the Rafale case and investigate PM role in it. However, the agency on Thursday refuted any such claims.
