Volvo to assemble the XC90 plug-in hybrid in India next year

Volvo Auto India, on Thursday, announced that the company will start the local assembly of the XC90 plug- in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant by the end of 2019.

The company launched the plug-in Hybrid variant of the XC90 in India earlier this year. In late 2017, Volvo had started the assembly of the XC90 in India, followed by the S90 at the Bengaluru plant. The company started to assemble its one of the best selling cars- XC60- in September this year.

The Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription plug-in hybrid is a 7- seater SUV, which features similar looks as of the T8 Hybrid Excellence variant. While most of the features remain the same as the XC90 T8 Inscription with additional features like a 4-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, Bowers and Wilkins system, head- up display (HUD), adaptive suspension, Nappa leather seats and ventilation function for the front passengers.

The XC90 T8 Inscription houses a 2.0-litre, direct injection, four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 320bhp and 240Nm of torque, however, along with the electric motor however, The power output climbs to 398bhp of max power and 640Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission. The plug- in hybrid can travel up to 32 kms on a single charge and can push off from 0-100 kmph in under 6 seconds.

The Volvo PHEV comes with 6 drive modes – Save, Pure, Hybrid, Power, All-Wheel Drive and Off-Road. The electric motor can be charged with a power outlet of 110V or a 240V for about 12 or six hours depending on the outlet. In addition, the car features brake energy recovery feature which enables the electric motor to be charged every time the brakes are applied.

The Swedish automaker will provide two charging stations to the customers and these charging stations can charge the XC90 T8 Inscription PHEV in about 2.5-hours.

At present, the T8 Inscription is priced at Rs 96.65 lakh and the T8 Excellence costs Rs 1.31 crore (all prices, ex-showroom).
