Sunil Arora appointed as Chief Election Commissioner; to replace OP Rawat on Dec 2

New Delhi: In the midsts of assembly polls in five states, Sunil Arora is all set to take over as the Chief Election Commissioner after President Ramnath Kovind cleared the appointment of the former bureaucrat.

According to reports, Arora, who is currently election commissioner, will take over as the head of election commission on December 2, when OP Rawat demits office.

Ashok Lavasa is the second election commissioner.

Arora has served as a secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting. He a 1980-batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre who has also served as the secretary in the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship.

He has served in ministries such as finance, textiles and planning commission and served as joint secretary in the ministry of civil aviation.
