Indian diplomats face harassment in Pak; gas connection delayed, internet blocked

Date:

The diplomatic relationship between India and Pakistan seems to have taken a turn for the worse after reports of Indian diplomats based in Islamabad facing harassment began to surface.

According to the news agency ANI, Indian diplomats in Pakistan are not being issued new gas connections and internet services of some senior Indian officials being blocked.

Furthermore, guests visiting diplomats are also being questioned allegedly by Pakistan’s secret service agents. Reportedly, the surveillance of the diplomats has also increased. On December 10, an intruder tried to enter the house of an Indian diplomat in Islamabad.

According to reports, India has taken up this matter with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In March 2018, India and Pakistan mutually agreed to follow 1961 bilateral code of conduct for the treatment of diplomatic/consular personnel in India and Pakistan. However, such behaviour by Pakistan is a clear contravention of the Vienna Convention.
