Former banker and AAP leader Meera Sanyal passes away at 57

Meera Sanyal, former banker and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader passed away on Friday at the age of 57 after a brief illness.

The official Twitter page of AAP shared the news expressing their grief.

Sanyal, former chief executive officer and chairperson of the Royal Bank of Scotland in India, contested the Lok Sabha election in 2014 on APP’s ticket.

She unsuccessfully contested the elections from Mumbai South constituency.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia also expressed their condolences.


Sanyal was a member of former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s International Council on Women’s Business Leadership. She was awarded as Philanthropist of the Year by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in 2011.
