Born on January 15, 1929, in Georgia, United States, Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and civil rights activist. He was the most visible spokesperson and leader of the American civil rights movement from 1954 onwards. He was assassinated in 1968.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed each year on the third Monday of January. It celebrates his life and achievements. He campaigned to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States.
