Pension of 94-year-old woman reinstated after 30 years on PM Modi’s intervention

Upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interference in the Ministry of Defence, instructions have been issued to reinstate the pension of a 94-year-old Army widow who’s husband died thirty years ago.

Hebe Benjamin had written to Modi after repeated ignorance from the Ministry of Defence and lack of support to her and her family.

Since Narendra Modi has intervened, Hebe the widow of Late Col George Benjamin of Army Engineers is expected to receive of Rs. 75 lakh or above which could also be Rs. 1 crore, if all the interests and arrears have been paid for.

Since the widow now lives in Israel, no MoD officer was willing to help her even upon repeated requests and visits from the friends and relatives in India. It was a real battle for Benjamin for a legal pension that she deserved.

Her husband, Late Col Benjamin served in the Corps of Engineers and took retirement in 1966. He was also the 2003rd officer in the Indian Army after Independence.

The minister of Defence ordered the case to be pursued and immediate grievance redressal to be provided to Hebe. The family pension is expected to reach Benjamin’s direct account by January 31.
