Chandrababu Naidu claims EVM hacking is easy

Date:

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday claimed that there were 100 per cent chances for hacking electronic voting machines (EVMs).

“It’s easy to misuse technology. It is particularly easy for the one who writes the (software) programme,” he said while addressing the Telugu Desam Party MPs in Amravati.

He also asked Election Commission of India to either ensure that VVPAT receipts were issued 100 percent or revert to the old ballot paper system.

“The Election Commission is only a referee. It should not enforce a system on which there is no trust,” PTI quotes TDP chief as saying.

“Political parties are only raising the people’s demand. Many parties are opposed to the EVMs. Even developed countries have not been using EVMs and hence, the EC should not exert pressure on using a system in which there is no faith,” he added.

His comments came in the wake of recent EVM controversy after a US-based hacker made a sensational claim about rigging 2014 General elections for a political party by hacking the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Ever since the revelation, the political party major political parties of India started the blame game.

However, the EC had rubbished all the claims. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on January 22, alleged that the Congress had organised the EVM hackathon in London in which a cyber expert claimed that the 2014 general elections were rigged.

“We will expose this claim,”  Prasad said, adding that the Congress was insulting the 2014 mandate.
