Did Nirmala Sitharaman touch IAF pilot Abhinandan’s mother’s feet? Here’s the truth

Date:

A video is making rounds which claim that Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman touching feet of Indian Air Force Pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s mother is going viral on social media.

“Nirmala Sitaraman our honourable defence minister touching the feet of Abhinandan’s mother. These are the values that need to be inculcated in our children. It comes by setting an example not asking then to do, ” the caption reads.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked this, we found the claim to be false.

The video is of an army event in Dehradun on March 4th, 2019. During the event, Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman touched the feet of the mother of a martyred Army jawan as a mark of respect.

The video was shared by BJP MLA from Mussoorie, Ganesh Joshi.

This proves that the claim accompanying the video is not true and the lady is not Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s mother.
