Technical glitches in EVMs delay polling in Odisha, Tamil Nadu

Voting in some polling booths in Odisha and Tamil Nadu got delayed following technical glitches in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

The polling for the second phase of the 17th Lok Sabha elections began on Thursday morning in 95 parliamentary constituencies across 11 states and one Union Territory.

In Odisha, the second phase of polling is being held for five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly seats. In Odisha’s Sundergarh, technical glitches were reported in the EVMs in several booths in Talsara Assembly constituency while polling was delayed in six booths in Bonai Assembly constituency, said informed sources.

Voters faced similar problems in Kandhamal as well. EVMs were not working in several booths in G.Udayagiri and in Baliguda. A 95-year-old man died while waiting in the queue to cast his vote in Kansamari booth of Sanakhemundi which falls in the Lok Sabha constituency.

Meanwhile in Tamil Nadu, voting was delayed in various constituencies including Choolaimedu, Guindy, Ashok Nagar, and Virugambakkam among others in Chennai, according to sources.

Polling for 38 Parliamentary Constituencies and by-poll for 18 Assembly Constituencies are being held in Tamil Nadu simultaneously.
