After falling into an open manhole at Phoenix Mills in Mumbai, Singapore based fund manager Samir Arora now finds himself in a worrisome soup. Twitterati erupted in anger after his friend tweeted about Samir Arora’s near-death experience when visiting Mumbai. Now the DNA reports that the BMC is considering suing him and others for defamation saying the open manhole was not under their jurisdiction. The Phoenix group clarified that the manhole comes under premises of the Laxmi Woollen Mills Estate and BMC sent a notice to DM Shah, the director of the society.
All this apparently because Arora had tweeted about this.
Thank you Neeraj. It was scary as hell (and smelly). Was within micro seconds of disappearing. Quick reflexes and shape of manhole gave me second life.
Guys and gals- be careful in life and remain safe. Yeh hai Mumbai meri jaan and was close to taking my jaan. https://t.co/6RX3M2GatS

Many people on twitter were quick to blame BMC-Brimhan Mumbai Corporation, the richest municipal corporation in the world for being lax.
Thats really scary and very sad,we all Mumbaikars are at high risk of such negligence from some insensitive and incompetent #BMC

@bmcmumbai Samir , you should tag them and raise this. Hope that awakens their soul and force them to work for citizen rather then them self.

Pretty wild idea from BMC to signal that they are, in general, above criticism https://t.co/QqOfC0wfwK

BMC has been criticised for potholes in Mumbai roads and many other instances of failing public infrastructure in Mumbai. But this time the municipal corporation has decided to fight back as is it thinks the criticism here in undue.
Not many have missed the satire in Samir Arora’s olive branch to the BMC
This is to put on record that BMC is the best municipal corporation in the world. We are all very proud of BMC. I hope all Mumbaikars will join me in applauding the services delivered by this very great organization.https://t.co/HsKsw5L3Wp
