No, this viral photo of an elephant is not from Uttarakhand, here’s the truth!

A picture post has surfaced on the internet with the claim that an elephant in Uttarakhand saved the lives of people by obstructing a bus falling in a trench.

The text on the post read: ”उत्तराखंड में खाई में गिर रही बस को रोक कर इस हाथी ने लोगों की जान बचाई जय गणेशा”

Translation: ”This elephant saved the lives of people by obstructing a bus falling in a trench in Uttarakhand Jai Ganesha”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim attached to it to be FAKE. We found that the picture is not from Uttarakhand.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across a news report by BBC News.

The picture dates back to November 18, 2007 when Cyclone Sidr had hit Bangladesh. At least 2,000 people were reported dead after the powerful cyclone ripped through southern and central Bangladesh. The cyclone destroyed thousands of homes and wiped out vital crops.

Hence, the above information proves that the claim attached to the viral image is FAKE.
