Ajay Bhalla named new Home Secretary

Senior IAS officer Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been named Union Home Secretary on Thursday.

“The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Officer on Special Duty, MHA as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs,” the government notification read.

He is the 1984 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre and will have a two-year term till August 2021.

Bhalla has succeeded Rajiv Gauba.

Meanwhile, Gauba was on Wednesday appointed the new Cabinet Secretary, the country’s top bureaucratic post, for a tenure of two years.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Rajiv Gauba, IAS (JH:1982) as Cabinet Secretary with a tenure of two years from August 30 or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” a government notification read.
