Did policemen in UP steal diesel from police vehicle? Here’s the fact check

Date:

A picture is being shared on social media where two policemen can be seen standing near UP 100 number vehicle of the Uttar Pradesh Police. A bucket can also be spotted right next to it with a pipe in the tank of the vehicle.

The claims are being made that the police are stealing diesel from the vehicle.

” यूपी 100 नंबर से डीजल चोरी करते हुए जांबाज पुलिस जवान” the caption read.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, we found the claim to be fake.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found that in 2017 UP Police asked Allahabad police (now Prayagraj) to launch an investigation after this picture went viral on social media.

Prayagraj police explained that the payment at petrol pumps are done through petrol cards. Due to insufficient balance in the card the police could not complete the payment for the diesel that was filled in the vehicle. Hence, they had to return the diesel to the petrol pump and the picture was clicked while the fuel was being extracted from the vehicle.

They also posted a video confirming the place in the picture is, in fact, a petrol pump.

This proves that the claim attached to the picture is not true.
