India-Pak sign agreement on Kartarpur corridor

Date:

India and Pakistan will on Thursday signed an agreement to operationalise the Kartarpur corridor. The corridor will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Punjab with the gurdwara at Kartarpur, about four km from the international border, located at Narowal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province.

India is going ahead in signing the pact though it was strongly opposed to Pakistan’s decision to levy a service charge of 20 US Dollars on each pilgrim.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9th and flag off the 1st Jatha of 550 pilgrims to Kartarpur Sahib.

A web portal is also expected to be launched soon after signing of agreement. The portal will help in online registration of devotees visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.

India and Pakistan have already agreed on visa-free travel of Indian pilgrims to Gurudwara Darbar Sahib using the Kartarpur corridor. Pilgrims will only have to carry their passports to visit the revered Gurdwara in Pakistan.
