Picture of cop thrashing man is NOT from recent Jamia protest over CAA; here’s the truth

Date:

Amid the massive protests in different parts of the country over the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, a picture has surfaced on the internet in which a police officer can be seen thrashing a man.

It has been claimed that it is one of the pictures from the protest at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University and the man being thrashed is one of the student protestors.

The caption of the picture read: “Delhi Police, because these students are not nationalists agitating to remove a Muslim professor. These are Jamia students.”

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the above post we found the claim attached to the picture to be FAKE.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across an article, dated February 14th, 2017 which had featured the viral picture.

According to the article, the viral picture is from March 2011 when then Lucknow DIG, DK Thakur thrashed Samajwadi Party’s Anand Bhadauria during a protest.

The above information proves that the viral picture is old and it is certainly NOT from the recent protest in Jamia Millia Islamia University.
