Sania Mirza returns on the court after two-years

Partnering with Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza made a glorious return to the courts after a gap of nearly two-years with an opening-round win in women’s doubles at the Hobart International over Oksana Kalashnikova and Miyu Kato 2-6, 7-6(3), [10-3].

After losing the first set, the match turned on it’s head in the 2nd as the Indo-Ukranian pair stormed past their opponents to take the game into the 3rd set, where the tiebreaker turned out to be an easy win for the pair.

The former World number 1 Mirza and her partner are currently unseeded and all set to take on the American pair Christina McHale and Vania King who beat Spanish fourth seeds Georgia Parez and Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Sania Mirza took a long break from the courts due to her injury and then to give birth. The 33-year-old last played in the China Open in October 2017 and is using a protected ranking. The Champion hinted her comeback in one her interviews at the Wimbledon final between Federer and Djokovic in 2019.

She also has her eyes firmly set on another grand slam title as she is ready to step in for the Australian Open 2020 in Melbourne.

Mirza is well rested and well recovered and is all set to step on the courts and retain her world number 1 position.
