Delhi polls: EC bars BJP MP Parvesh Verma from campaigning for 24 hrs

Date:

Election Commission on Wednesday barred Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma for holding any public meetings, public processions, public rallies, roadshows and interviews for 24 hours for calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a terrorist.

“The (Election) Commission is of the considered view that Sh. Parvesh Sahib Singh made vitriolic aspersions against Sh. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi which violate… the Model Code of Conduct…” the election body said in a statement today.

The last day of campaigning for the Delhi Assembly polls is February 6 till 5 pm. The poll watchdog had earlier banned him from campaigning for 96 hours for making hate speeches.

Earlier he was banned for claiming that those who have mounted a weeks-long peaceful sit-in protest at Shaheen Bagh against the citizenship law “will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters”.

The poll body also warned Delhi CM and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal over violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC), for promising to construct mohalla clinics in court complexes.

Polling in all the 70 seats in the national capital will be held on February 8 and the results will be announced on February 11.
