India face double whammy in NZ; not only lost the match but were fined 80% of match fee

In another to the Indian cricket team, the Internation Cricket Council fined 80% of match fee for slow over-rate in the first ODI against New Zealand on Wednesday.

“India have been fined 80 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the first One Day International in Hamilton,” ICC said in a statement.

On-field umpires Shaun Haig and Langton Rusere, third umpire Bruce Oxenford and fourth umpire Chris Brown levelled the charges on Men in Blue.

According to ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 20% of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction.

Meanwhile, New Zealand defeated India by four-wickets. Batting first, India scored 347-runs by the end of 50-overs. In reply, Kiwis managed to reach the target in 48.1-overs taking 1-0 lead in three-match ODI series.
