Uber, Delhi Police join hands to ensure safety of passengers

Ride-hailing app Uber recently said that its integration with Delhi Police’s Himmat app will enable passengers to share their ride information with the police authorities for a safe journey.

However, it will be optional for passengers to share their tracking options with the police.

While launching the new service, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik said that the merger with enhance location services and information and can help save lives.

Uber and Delhi Police have given more than 1,000 Himmat QR Verification Cards to driver-partners.

Uttar Pradesh Police also intends to come up with a related app called ‘Nirbhaya’ (Mobile App) which was launched for Noida by Noida Police.

When the passenger scans the QR Card, they can access driver-partners’ details while they can also obtain vehicle information on the Himmat app and have the option to report their journey directly to the Delhi Police through the app.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for IGI Airport Sanjay Bhatia said that if a passenger opts for the emergency service than passenger’s details with the live location of the taxi will be shared automatically with the Delhi Police Headquarters.

“The passengers data will remain in our database,” Bhatia said.

The Himmat app is a women safety mobile application of Delhi Police and was launched by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on January 1, 2015. The app is easily available on Android mobile phones and can be downloaded from the Delhi Police website and further aims to expand to other platforms.
