Now travel from India to Myanmar by Bus

The much-awaited bus service connecting India to Myanmar is all set to start from April 7, 2020. It will begin from Imphal in Manipur to Mandalay in Myanmar and is finally being implemented after 17 years.

The 579 km bus service will not only enhance connectivity between the two countries but it will also boost India’s ‘Look East Policy’.

Access to Myanmar’s Buddhist relics dating back to the 6th century, exquisite lakes and parks, evergreen markets is now just a bus ride away.

The trial run of the route took place in December 2015 which covered Tamu, Kalay and Monywa in Myanmar. The route was finalised by the Myanmar Government officials and a team of Indian officials.

As per media reports, N Biren Singh, Manipur’s Chief Minister, said that the bus service will operate thrice a week and if demand increases, it may turn into a daily affair.

The CM also mentioned that flight services are also being considered between Imphal and Mandalay.

This move aligns with India’s ‘Look East Policy’ which aims to enhance road connectivity with the Southeast Asian countries.
