COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Saturday

The country saw its sharpest ever rise of cases on Saturday as the total number of positive cases crossed the 7500-mark. The extension of the lockdown is also almost ascertained.

Here are the top 10 developments in India today-

1. Total number of cases in India now stands at 7,529.
Number of active cases- 6,634
Total deaths- 242
total cures or discharged cases- 652

2. The Centre is mulling on extending the nationwide lockdown by two more weeks. A notification to this effect is expected shortly.
This follows a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the Chief Ministers in which the matter was discussed threadbare.

3. Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka and West Bengal extended their lockdown periods till April 30.

4. Home Ministry has written again to states and UTs today, asking them to provide necessary police security to doctors and medical staff in hospitals during screening and in quarantine facilities.

5. After Maharashtra, Delhi witnesses 1000+ COVID-19 cases. 166 new cases reported in Delhi of which 128 are from ‘Under Special Operations’. Total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Delhi now stands at 1069, with a death toll at 19: Delhi Health Department. Number of containment zones in Delhi now at 33.

6. Delhi Government has initiated the process of providing one-time financial help of Rs 5000 to auto-rickshaw, taxi, Gramin Sewa, Phatphat Sewa, Maxi Cab, Eco-Friendly Sewa, E-Rickshaws and school cab drivers. The process of taking applications will start on April 13.

7. No COVID-19 positive cases reported in Gurugram district in the last 72 hours. The total number of active positive cases in the district is 18, total positive COVID-19 patients discharged is 14: Gurugram Health Department, Haryana.

8. Maharashtra: 187 new COVID-19 positive cases and 17 deaths reported today, taking the total number of positive Coronavirus cases in the state to 1761.

9. A 10-month-old baby who was tested positive for COVID-19 has now fully recovered and was discharged today. Out of total 12 positive cases in the district, 6 have been discharged: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka

10. Lucknow: A 2.5 year old COVID-19 positive baby boy was discharged from King George’s Medical University after being fully recovered as two of his tests came negative. His mother was also a COVID-19 patient and had recovered earlier.
