Two North East residents allege police torture in Bengaluru; police say they rescued them from mob-violence

Date:

In an alleged incident of mob violence in Bengaluru on Monday, two individuals from the North-Eastern states have alleged that a mob thrashed them and the Police refused to hear their side and instead tortured them for more than 15 hours inside a police station.

The trouble began when Samrat Pradhan from Darjeeling and his cousin Amit Kar from Nagaland, both aged 25, stepped out of their homes in Byrathi to buy some medicines.

According to their version, they were immediately stopped by the police who demanded to see their travel pass. When they stated that purchase of essential items was permitted and no travel pass was necessary for the same, the cops allegedly thrashed Amit on the spot. His cousin who was recording the video was allegedly thrashed by the mob who had gathered there. Samrat was then bundled into an auto and taken to the Hennur police station. He also alleges that the mob racially abused them and called them names such as ‘Coronavirus’.

When Samrat entered the police station, he found that his cousin Amit had been mercilessly thrashed by the cops.

It was then that the ordeal began, claim the duo. They have alleged that they were tortured for 15 hours by cops who took turns in indulging in beastly behaviour. They were finally released on Tuesday.

When NewsMobile spoke to the Hennur Police Station, the cops completely denied any wrongdoing and accused the duo of creating public order disturbances which enraged the mob who then tried to lynch the duo. The police claimed that they had rescued these two persons and had made them wait in the police station for their own safety before being released.
