The number of causalities in the US due to the deadly Coronavirus stands at around 73,000. This has prompted US President Donald Trump to describe this crisis as worse than that of the Pearl Harbour incident and the 9/11 attacks. The President also renewed his criticism of China in a fresh attack.
He said that the pandemic has caused damages greater than December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbour which brought the US directly involved in World War 2 and the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US orchestrated by the Al Qaeda.
He said: “This is really the worst attack we have ever had. This is worse than Pearl Harbour. This is worse than the World Trade Centre.”

The attack on the World Trade Centre resulted in about 3000 deaths.
Trump also continued to blame China for its misdeeds. He said: “It should never have happened. Could have been stopped at the source. Could have been stopped in China”.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry hit out at the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s statement that the virus originated in China and it had been a deliberate act of omission by the Chinese authorities in not warning the rest of the world.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that this should be left to scientists and Doctors and politicians should not lie to garner domestic political mileage.
The US COVID-19 Task Force headed by US Vice-President Mike Pence also decided to reorient their priorities and focus on revival of the economy.
Meanwhile, large parts of Europe are slowly opening up their economies. It appears to be business as usual in Germany where shops stayed open and the government has decided to open up other sectors in a phased manner.
