For the first time in the history of Rashtrapati Bhavan, envoys of seven countries presented their credentials to the President Ram Nath Kovind through video-conference on May 21. The move was necessitated due the prevailing Covid-19 situation.

President Kovind highlighted the growing importance of information technology and hailed this move as an example of innovative governance. He hailed this move as a special day in the diplomatic history of India.

The President further said that India will continue to use digital technologies to further the welfare of its citizens.

Addressing the envoys, President Kovind said that the Covid-19 pandemic posed an unprecedented challenge to the global community, and the crisis called for greater global co-operation. He pointed out that India has been in the forefront of extending support to fellow nations in fighting the pandemic.

The envoys who presented their credentials through video-conferencing are:

1. Choe Hui Chol, Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of K/orea

2. Abdoul Wahab Haidara, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal

3. Dr Roger Gopaul, High Commissioner of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago

4. Santi Bai Hanoomanjee, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius

5. Barry Robert O’Farrell, High Commissioner of Australia

6. M. N’DRY Eric Camille, Ambassador of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire

7. Jacqueline Mukangira, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda
