COVID-19 | India reports highest ever one-day spike, here’s the details of top 10 worst-hit states

With nearly 8,000 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID tally on Saturday rose to 1,73,763.

The country reported its highest ever spike of 7,964 new COVID-19 cases and 265 deaths in a span 24 hours, according to the data released by the Health Ministry.

There are now 86,422 active cases, 82370 cured/discharged/migrated and 4971 deaths in India.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in India with a total of 62,228 cases. It contributed 2,682 new cases on Friday or about 35% of the total cases in the country. It also witnessed the highest number of deaths (116) on Friday due to COVID-19 in a single day, taking the death toll to 2,098.

With 874 new positive cases reported on Friday, Tamil Nadu is the second-worst hit state in India. The total positive patients in the state are 20,246.

With being on the third spot, Delhi now has 17,386 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections, more than 7,800 of whom have already recovered.

On Friday, it reported more than 1,000 new cases for the second consecutive day. The national capital has seen the deaths of 398 people so far.
