Ninth Round Of India-China Talks Last For Over 15 Hrs Amidst Military Stand-Off

Date:

The ongoing conflict between India and China along the Line of Actual Control(LAC) at Ladakh has culminated into the ninth round of talks at Moldo on the Chinese side. The Corps Commander Level talks ended at 2:30 am on Monday.

The meeting lasted for more than 15 hours after starting at 11 am on Sunday, both the countries addressed the ongoing military standoff. The two countries have been engaged in a stand-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since April-May last year. While China began amassing massive military strength along the LAC, India responded with a befitting build-up.

Currently, 50,000 Indian Army troops are deployed along the border and ready for combat in the mountainous regions of Ladakh amidst sub-zero temperatures.

The eighth round of talks saw the Indian side insisting on disengagement from the Chinese side to thaw the fiction that has been on since nine months after 20 Indian soldiers died at Galwan valley in Ladakh in skirmishes with Chinese troops.

On August 29-30, India occupied heights along the northern and southern bank of the Pangong Lake which includes dominating positions overlooking the Chinese military deployed in that area.

The Chinese have been asking India to withdraw troops and tanks first from the southern bank but India has been asking for disengagement from all the friction points.

India is in no mood to reduce its troop strength unless Chinese troops take a step back. While there is no certainty as to when the issue could be resolved, the Indian government believes that talks with their Chinese troops could help to resolve the ongoing standoff.
