Fact Check: Old Picture Of Bihar’s Republic Day Tableau Falsely Shared As UP’s During Samajwadi Party’s Term

Date:

As India celebrates its 72nd Republic day, a picture post of two tableaux at the Republic Day parade is doing the rounds on social media. In one of these pictures, a model of a building with Muslim architecture and a statue of a Sufi saint is seen, while in the second photo, a model of a temple and a saint can be seen.

One user shared this photo with a caption, “समाजवादी राज में उत्तर प्रदेश की झांकी और योगी राज में उत्तर प्रदेश की झांकी बस यही सबसे बड़ा बदलाव है और यही बदलाव सबसे सुखद है”.

(Translation: Uttar Pradesh tableau under Samajwadi Raj and Uttar Pradesh tableau in Yogi Raj. This is the biggest change and this change is the most enjoyable)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the claim attached to it is fake.

When we cropped the picture and put it through Reverse Image Search, we found a report by The Hindu Business Line, dated January 26, 2011, featuring the same picture.

The caption of the picture read, ‘Tableaux of Bihar at Rajpath during Republic Day parade, in the Capital on 26-1-11. Pic: Ramesh Sharma – Business Line’.

We also found a video on Prasar Bharati’s YouTube channel that showed similar visuals of the tableau with a Muslim man praying in 2011 Republic Day Parade.

According to reports, Bihar exhibited this tableau depicting the 17th century Saint Makhdoom Shah Daulat.

We also found a press release by the government’s nodal agency, Press Information Bureau, dated January 21, 2011, that stated the themes and highlights of all the tableaux at the parade.

India Today published a gallery of all the tableaux exhibited at the 62nd Republic Day parade.

The above information proves that the picture claimed as the tableau during Samajwadi Party’s (SP) term actually shows the Bihar tableau exhibited at the 2011 Republic Day Parade.

On putting the second picture through Reverse Image Search, we found that the picture shows the Ram Mandir model exhibited by Uttar Pradesh tableau at the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2021. The reports can be seen here, here and here.

Hence, the above information proves that pictures of Bihar’s tableau exhibited at 2011 Republic Day parade are shared as Uttar Pradesh tableau under former CM Akhilesh Yadav’s term.
