President Kovind Says India’s Timely Decision Saved Lakhs Of Lives During COVID-19 pandemic

A day after India stated that it has flattened the COVID-19 graph, President Ram Nath Kovind lauded the Central government for it’s timely decision taken during the pandemic which saved the lives of lakhs of citizens.

President Kovind, in his address to a joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament, paid tribute to those who succumbed due to the virus. “Joint sitting of Parliament amid Corona pandemic is essential. It’s a new year, a new decade and we are also entering into the 75th year of independence. Today all MPs are present here with message and trust that however tough be the challenge neither we nor India will stop. In this fight against the pandemic, we lost many citizens. Former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away in this Corona period. Six MPs left us untimely due to COVID. I pay my tribute to all of them.” Said President Kovind.

“I am satisfied that the timely decision taken by my Government saved the lives of lakhs of citizens. Today the number of new COVID cases is going down rapidly. The number of recoveries is very high.” Added President Kovind.

President Kovind also commented on India’s vaccination drive with the Made In India vaccines. “It is a matter of pride that India is running the biggest vaccination programme in the world. Both vaccines of this programme are made in India. In this crisis, India shouldered its responsibility towards mankind and provided lakhs of doses of vaccines to several nations.”

On Thursday Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said at the World Economic Forum’s Davos dialogue held via video conferencing, that the at the beginning of the pandemic, global experts had predicted that India will face a tsunami of Covid-19 cases.

“Today, Covid cases are declining rapidly in India.” Said PM Modi while adding how public participation coupled with technology used for testing and tracking helped to flatten the coronavirus curve in the country. PM Modi also added how India is producing vaccines to help the world deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So far, there are only two Made In India Vaccines available. In the coming days, many more vaccines are expected to arrive. These will help the world vaccinate more people in an expeditious way.” Added the PM.

India has flattened the COVID-19 curve which is a boost for the country along with the two vaccines Covishield and Coxavin being given to frontline and healthcare workers which will reach the rest of the population in the coming months.
