Fact Check: No! This Picture Is Not Of ‘Narendra Modi Chowk’ In India; Picture Is Morphed

Date:

A picture of a marble statue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a giant kettle pouring water on him is doing the rounds on social media. A signboard reading ‘Narendra Modi Chowk’ can also be seen in the background.

The caption of the picture read, “निंदनीय ये हो क्या रहा है,जीते जी किसी के नाम के चौक-चौराहे,स्टेडियम-अस्पताल की परंपरा हमारे देश में नही है !!!”

(Translation- It is condemnable, there is no tradition of naming intersections, stadium-hospital in the name of someone alive in our country.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked these posts and found that the picture is edited and the claim attached to the posts is fake.

On putting these images through Reverse Image Search, we found a video on YouTube showing a similar installation of the kettle pouring water, but instead of a statue of PM Modi, there was a cup. The title of the video reads, “Station Chowk Faisalabad”.

With that information, we did another Reverse Image Search along with some keywords and found the original image on the Urdu Point website showing a giant kettle and cup installation at the Station Chowk in Faisalabad, Pakistan.

On comparing both the pictures, it becomes clear that the picture of an installation at Station Chowk in Pakistan has been edited and the statue of PM Modi has been added using photo editing software.

We also found the picture of the Chowk from a different angle on Google Maps.

This clearly establishes the fact that the picture has been edited and a statue of PM Modi has been digitally added.
