FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the photo to be OLD.

Firstly, through the Reverse Image Search tool, we found the original image of Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar in a news report published on the website of The Times of India.

The report was published on May 18, 2018. According to the news item, when CM Khattar  reached a village in Hisar, a person named Praveen Kumar threw black oil on him.

Further, using keywords like–‘Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar’, ‘Black Oil’, we ran a simple Google search and that led us to a video posted on YouTube dated May 17, 2018. The caption of the video read: ‘Haryana : Hisar में CM Manohar Lal पर काला तेल फेंका’

Hence, with all the information in hand, it is clear that the photo in circulation is not a recent one but an old photo that has now resurfaced on social media and has been wrongly linked to the ongoing farmers’ protest.
