Former CBI Director Ranjit Sinha Passes Away In Delhi

Former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ranjit Sinha passed away in the national capital on Friday morning, confirmed government officials.

He had tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Sinha who was a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1974 batch passed away around 4.30 am today.

Apart from serving as the CBI Director, Sinha also held various senior posts, including DG ITBP.

Ranjit Sinha, an IPS officer of the 1974 batch (Bihar cadre) took over as the Director of CBI on 03.12.2012 and retired on 02.12.2014.

He was the 26th Director of CBI after its formation in 1963.

Sinha had earlier held several important positions in CBI, including the post of Joint Director and DIG. Shri Sinha served as Superintendent of Police of Madhubani, Saharsa & Railway(Patna). He had also served as DIG, Magadh Range, Gaya.

He had served in CRPF as IG(Ops) at Srinagar, IG(Pers) at Directorate General and ADG in ITBP.

Ranjit Sinha, a Post Graduate in Science from Patna University, had an M.Phil from IIPA, New Delhi and a Diploma in HR Management from Wollongong University, Australia.

He was decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1991 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1997.
