Fact Check: Did Danish Soccer Player Christian Eriksen Suffer Cardiac Arrest Due To COVID-19 Vaccine? Here’s The Truth

Date:

A screenshot of a tweet is being shared on social media claiming that Christian Eriksen, a Danish soccer player who collapsed during a match over the weekend, recently received a COVID-19 vaccine.

The tweet text in the image reads, “Christian Eriksen, the Danish player who suddenly collapsed on the pitch, plays for Inter Milan. The chief medic and cardiologist of that Italian team confirmed on an Italian radio station that Eriksen has received the Pfizer vaccine on May 31st.” A reply to the tweet on the screenshot attempts to cite the Italian radio station Radio Sportiva as the source.

The post is shared on Facebook with a caption that reads, “Christian Eriksen Pfizer vaxed on May 31st, collapses on pitch June 12th. No doubt nothing to do with the life-saving vax though.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

Starting with our investigation, we searched the web with relevant keywords for news reports corroborating the viral claim but we could find none. All the credible media reports were stating otherwise.

Denmark’s team doctor said in a news conference that Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch. Though Christian Eriksen is doing fine now and he took to social media on June 15 to provide an update on his condition.

“Hello everyone, big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family. I’m fine under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay. Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark,” he wrote.

Taking a cue from this, we searched further and found a tweet by Radio Sportiva dated June 13 in which they denied reporting that Eriksen recently received a COVID-19 vaccine as claimed in the viral image.

The text in Italian translates to, “The information reported in the tweet [viral screenshot] is false. We have never reported any opinion from the Inter medical staff regarding Christian Eriksen’s condition. Please remove the content from the tweet author, otherwise, we will be forced to take action.”

Giuseppe Marotta, the director of Inter Milan, the Italian professional soccer team on which Eriksen also plays, told Rai Sports that Eriksen “didn’t have COVID and wasn’t vaccinated” for it, according to Reuters.

Speaking to Check Your Fact, Jakob Høyer, a spokesperson for Denmark’s men’s national team, also refuted the claim that Eriksen had recently received a COVID-19 vaccination. When asked about the viral tweet, he said, “No, not true”.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that social media posts claiming that Eriksen collapsed on the field from cardiac arrest days after receiving Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine are false.
